Pressing Toward the Goal

I was probably about 11 years old when my neighbor across the street let me try to ride her unicycle.  Of course, just like learning to ride a bike, I had to learn how to mount a unicycle and ride it.  It took me thousands of times holding on to the car and going around and around until one day, I finally felt confident enough to let go and begin to actually ride it! It took hard work.  It took perseverance, courage, practice, and letting go of my fear!  Each day, I had to press on towards the goal of riding that unicycle.

I believe that in our journey of faith, it is much like learning to ride a unicycle.  St. Paul told the Philippians that more than anything, he wanted to know Jesus Christ and the power of His resurrection.  Our faith journey takes thousands of times of holding onto God’s Word through perseverance, courage, practice, until one day, we feel confident to let go of our fear to proclaim Christ and begin to actually live a life in Christ!

Learning to ride a unicycle or anything else that we put our minds to is to “press on toward the goal.”  What if our goal in our lives were to understand the value of knowing Christ Jesus, the power of the resurrection, and the sharing of His suffering, if then we could begin to only look what lies ahead – the prize of the heavenly call of God in Christ Jesus!  (Philippians 3:14)

  1. It’s hard to let go and live a life of Christ but once we do then we realize what God has done for us and the prayers He has answered for us.
