"Know the Generosity of God…and never thirst" (John 4)
Know the Generosity of God…and never thirst! (John 4)

A Heavy Heart

It is still dark outside when my alarm clock goes off.  As I begin to wake up, I feel overwhelmed with the day that is before me.  So much to do!  So much to get done!  So much responsibility!  We often begin our days with a heavy heart – worried about our jobs and how we will make our ends meet, taking care of our children, faced with violence and hate in the world, and the list goes on and on.

In 2 Kings 2:1-14, there are two prophets, Elijah and Elisha.  Did you know that Elijah never dies?  He ascends into heaven just like Jesus did!  “Elijah ascended in a whirlwind into heaven” (v.11).  He also had the powers of God – “Then Elijah took his mantle and rolled it up and struck the water; the water was parted to one side and to the other, until the two of them crossed on dry ground” (v.8).  Can you imagine?  Can you imagine a world where God takes care of everything?

Even as we begin our days with a heavy heart, we are reminded through this text that God does and will take care of everything.  God made sure through Jesus Christ that we too will ascend into heaven just like Elijah.  If God can do that, imagine what else God can do in our lives!?   Let God release you from your fears – take hold of the life God intended for you today.

Let us pray…Gracious God, we forget that you “got us!”  We forget that you will help us and lead us into your paths of righteousness.  Help us to let go of our fears of today and look forward to the days we get to spend with you.  We love you so much.  Amen.
