Have you ever been in a situation where things didn’t go so well? And, you think to yourself, I need a “Do-Over!” Sometimes I just want to start over! I even have ‘days’ where I feel like I just need to go back to bed, get up again, and just start all over. I have a tendency, to want to “fix” things – make it right! But, if you think about it…That is what Jesus offers to us. Jesus gives each of us an opportunity to have a “Do-Over,” make things right, and try again to make things better.
In 1 Samuel 10:1-24, Samuel is told by God to make Saul the Ruler over Israel. So, Samuel anoints Saul and gives him very specific instructions. After going through all the logistics of how everything will go down, Samuel then tells Saul, “Then the Spirit of the Lord will possess you and you will be in a prophetic frenzy…and be turned into a different person…God gave him another heart…” (1 Samuel 10:6-7; 9).
A prophetic frenzy? What does that mean? Well, I certainly believe it could mean different things for different people; however, for me I see myself falling to the ground in a frenzy of repentance. For me, it is that realization that I messed up. The reason I want a “do-over” is because I know I didn’t handle things as God might would have wanted me to. And, here is the thing…repentance – acknowledging our wrongdoing, changes us. It makes us a different person. God gives us a new heart! God not only gives us the opportunity for a “do-over” but also, makes everything right and new again!
Let us pray, Lord Jesus, our Savior who loves us above anything that we can possibly imagine. Give us a new heart. Make us a different person through the work of the Holy Spirit. Help us to go into a prophetic frenzy by repenting our sins and acknowledging our wrongdoings before you. We give you thanks and praise for the opportunities that give us through your name. Amen.
