I remember meeting my husband for the first time. We have now been married almost 34 years. For me, it was love at first sight. I wanted to get to know him. I wanted to spend time with him. I would even lay awake at night thinking about him. No doubt, I fell in love and cannot imagine my life without him. We do everything together. We are a part of each other’s lives. We treat each other with respect. We are faithful and loyal to each other. We share our secrets, our hopes, and our dreams. It is a relationship that I am truly grateful for.
In Psalm 63:1-8, the Psalmist David recognizes his relationship with God. He says, “God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you…” As I read this Psalm, it reminds me of my relationship with my husband, in the sense of this longing to be together. I believe this is the kind of relationship God wants with each of us – this desire to know Him, to be with Him, and to have Him in our thoughts night and day. God desires for us to lean on Him and to come to Him with our deepest and darkest secrets, knowing that we can trust Him with our lives!
There is nothing better or more exciting than that feeling of falling in love. It is like a renewal, an awakening, and a fulfillment of the heart. And, if we are not careful, a relationship can grow stale and complacent. Relationships are precious and deserve your attention – And, so does your relationship with God!
Let us pray…Gracious God, we do love you and we are sorry if we have allowed our relationship to grow stale. Renew us with your love and open our hearts to your gift of grace, mercy, and salvation. In your name, we pray, Amen.
