In the Lutheran faith, we have what we call “confirmation.”  It is a milestone for the Christian to “confirm” their faith since we typically baptize as infants.  It is a two-year training that usually happens when they are in the 7^th and 8^th grade.  It is one of my favorite opportunities to teach the Word of God as a pastor.  This past week we talked about what it means to be “faithful” to God.  Some really good answers emerged.  For example, keeping themselves in a deep relationship with God through prayer and worship – not just on Sunday morning, but also throughout the week.  But, then I asked them, “If your friend Joe came up to you and starting talking bad to you about Jesus, what would you say and do?”  To my surprise, they told me that has actually happened to them.  “What did you do,” I asked.  One student said, “Sorry you feel that way, but I believe in Jesus.”  Wow!  For a seventh grader, I found that very profound.  That is being faithful.

In Psalm 85:8-13, the Psalmist states, “Steadfast love and faithfulness will meet.”  God is our steadfast love – God will never fail us.  We have no reason to think or question His love for us.  We are the ones who are to be faithful.  In this time of Advent, we are called to begin to path the way for our Lord Jesus and when he comes again.  The reward is awesome!  The Lord will give what is good (v.12).  His salvation is at hand (v.9).  And, he will speak peace to his people (v.8).

Being faithful to our God is not an easy task during this time of the year when there are so many distractions.  However, our God promises that His glory will dwell in our land!  (Psalm 85:9).  Consider how you will remain faithful during this time of the year as you continue to wait for the Lord.
