I truly believe the statement, “What goes around, comes around.” What this means is that when we treat others poorly and with hate, there will come a time when we are treated in the same way. God loves justice! Often, those who have treated us with hate, will get to experience what that feels like at some point in their lives. For me, it is a good reason to turn the other way when someone has caused me hurt and then let God take care of the rest. And, God will! I have seen it! Justice is a beautiful thing.
In 2 Samuel 18:1-18, King David’s son, Absalom has gone up against his own father in battle. The whole scene is horrible. Literally, David has had to make a run for his life from his son. And, so now they are in battle. “The slaughter there was great on that day, twenty thousand men. The battle spread over the face of all the country; and the forest claimed more victims that day than the sword” (2 Samuel 18:7-8). And now, here is the justice: Absalom was riding on his mule and they rode up under an oak tree that caught hold of Absalom. “Absalom was caught between heaven and earth” (v.9). One of David’s servants saw him and took “three spears…and thrust them into the heart of Absalom” (v.14).
“What goes around, comes around.” Today, we can be reminded that God has our backs. There will be justice for those who have hurt us. It’s hard to walk away when you just want to say your mind and take revenge. But, put it in the Lord’s hands. God loves justice!
Let us pray…Lord God, help us to remember that you love us so much and that you will handle situations that have hurt us. “Let justice pour down like rain!” We love you Lord, Jesus. Amen.
