Know the Generosity of God…and never thirst! (John 4)

How Do I Move Forward?

There is one thing for sure…that when we pass from this earth, nothing stops – even though we will.  Those that we love and care so deeply for will move on into their next phase of life; however, for those who are left behind, it is difficult to move on with those we had loved so much.

In 2 Samuel 1:17—2:7, Saul had killed himself with the sword, along with his sons – including Jonathan, whom David loved so much.  They were very close – looked out for each other, did battle together, and were the best of friends.  David respected Saul as King and knew that God had, at one time, appointed Saul as King.  David never lost sight of that, even though he knew that Saul was trying to kill him and David certainly had opportunities to kill Saul – but never did.  But, I think the death of Jonathan was devastating to David.

Life goes on, even in the midst of our mourning and grief of a loved one.  David now becomes King (v.4).  David has a job to do.  God has anointed David to rule Israel and lead them into a healthy future.

Life is so hard sometimes.  Even if we are not in the midst of the death of someone we love so much, it can be difficult to move forward and do what we are called to do in our lives.  Only God can give us what we need to get through our difficult days.

Let us pray…Gracious God, help us to spend our days doing what you would want us to do – even though we are so often weighed down with all the worries of the world, grieving over our loved ones who may be suffering or who may have died, or just trying to make our ends meet financially.  Give us what we need to get through this day.  In your name we pray, Amen.
