Know the Generosity of God…and never thirst! (John 4)

How do You See the World?

Most people think that to become wealthy, they need to save every penny, be so frugal that they can literally squeeze blood from a turnip, and they are usually not risk-takers.   Most people who have this mentally see the world through the lens of “scarcity.”  They are worried they will not have enough, concerned they will lack in what they need, and focus on hoarding for themselves…for that time of “just in case…”  However, through my own experience and witness, I have learned that the more I give to others, the more I receive.  I have never been hungry or lacked in anything that I needed. In fact, I have more than I could ever possibly need. God calls us to this new life that is a change of heart. It begins by having the ability to see the world through the lens of “abundance.”

In Corinthians 9:6-15, St. Paul is telling the congregation of Corinth that if you give sparingly, you will receive sparingly. But, the one who is generous and gives bountifully, will receive bountifully.  In other words, you reap what you sow!  I have been on the side of scarcity, thinking that I could not afford to tithe, help others, or even be gracious when tipping those who serve me.  But, Jesus tells us that when we make up our mind to give generously, God will provide us with every blessing in abundance (2 Cor 9:8).  My husband and I began to go out of our comfort zone, take a leap of faith that God will deliver on His promises of abundance, and begin tithing to our church.

Our lives began to change.  It was a very noticeable difference.  We never seem to worry about anything – like paying our bills or having enough to eat.  I believe that when we make the decision to obey God and give to others generously with a cheerful heart, God will change your life in profound ways.  It is seeing the world through the lens of abundance, and receiving God’s gift of grace and mercy.

Let us pray…Gracious God, open our hearts to see the world as you see it – help us to give to others with generous hearts so that we may receive your gift of grace and mercy abundantly.  In your name we pray, Amen.
