Leadership and Change

Change for most people is very difficult.  If one likes the way things are, he or she may fight change.  I love change!  One of my strengths is to ‘maximize’ any given situation.  In other words, I am always looking for ways to make things better.  After all, everything has room for improvement!  Change in the world is inevitable.  So, to try and stay the same way as always, is a slippery slope – It’s setting yourself up for disappointment, conflict, and discontentment.

In 1 Samuel 18:1-16, Saul has been King.  However, ever since he disobeyed God, the Holy Spirit left him.  David has now come into the picture whom God loves and adores.  Saul is angry because David has gained popularity and the people want him as King of Israel.  This change is very difficult for Saul.  It is a change where Saul needs to recognize that he is no longer what Israel needs.  He needs to step down.  This is hard to do for anyone who has been in places of power.

How might change be calling you to step down and let someone else lead that change?

Let us pray…Gracious God, your Kingdom is always changing.  There are better ways to do things and you create leaders who are equipped to lead the change in your kingdom.  Give us the discernment to ask ourselves if we are the right person for the job.  In your name we pray, Amen.
