Let Go and Let God!

I’ll never forget when I had to go to Minnesota to attend Seminary there for a year, my husband and I were discerning when we should put our house on the market.  My hope and pray at the time was that I would be able to stay in the area and not have to move at all.  So, we decided that we would wait until we got back from Minnesota to try and sell the house.  By then, we thought, we would have a clearer picture of where I might would be called to do ministry.  But, God had other plans for me.  One night just a month or so before leaving for Minnesota, I get a call on my cell phone.  Someone was wanting to buy our house.  Two days later, they came to see the house.  Within 30 days, the house was sold and we moved to a rental house.  I knew then that God had plans for me and staying in the area was not happening.

In Matthew 9:35—10:9, the disciples had been with Jesus watching him perform miracles and all the while, their faith was growing stronger and stronger.  Jesus asked them to pray for disciples to help proclaim the Kingdom of Heaven.  But, it was time…It was time for the disciples to go out on their own and proclaim the Kingdom.  Jesus gives them the ability to heal the sick, cast our demons, and cleanse the lepers from their skin disease.  However, he also gives them very distinct instructions – no money, no change of clothes, no walking stick – not even sandals or shoes for your feet.  Right away, these disciples are asked to put one hundred percent of their trust in Jesus that he will provide for them!

Honestly, I don’t know what I would have done if Jesus had required me to leave everything I have so that I could do ministry.  I still took with me, all my belongs, clothing, and money.  But, when my house sold in the manner, in which it sold, I knew I had to trust in God’s plan.  It’s not easy and it’s even scary.  But, at the same time, it is very exciting to put your trust in God and let him lead you to unknown places and dreams that you could never dream on your own!

Let go!  Let God lead you!  Let God dream your dreams for you!

Let us pray, Jesus…send us out into the world with our trust in you.  Dream our dreams for us.  Show us what faith and trust really mean!  In your name we pray, Amen.
