Know the Generosity of God…and never thirst! (John 4)

Ministers of a New Covenant

To have confidence in something or someone is to have trust and belief that you can rely on that person for whatever it is you are seeking from him or her.  For example, I have confidence that my husband will fulfill his promises of faithfulness to me. I believe that he will be loyal and faithful.  I trust him!  So, I pose the question: What then would it take  for you to put your confidence in Christ Jesus in order that you may proclaim His Word?

In 2 Corinthians 3:1-6, St. Paul is telling the congregation that they do not need a letter of recommendation to go and proclaim Christ.  Their letter of recommendation is written on their hearts!  They have everything they need to do the work of the Lord.  He states, “Not that we are coming from us; our competence is from God, who has made us competent to be ministers of a new covenant, not of letter but of Spirit…” (2 Cor 3:5-6). Therefore, we are led by the Spirit to proclaim Christ!  Our confidence is in Jesus Christ, not ourselves!

We are called to deepen our relationship with Jesus Christ!  The more we know Him, the more confident we will become in our proclamation because of our relationship with Him.  Our witness and testimony to Jesus is then written on our hearts and will be revealed to others through our words and actions.  We won’t be able to help our proclamation because the Spirit will be in control!  Our hearts are open to wherever the Spirit leads us.

Let us pray…Gracious God, we pray that we follow your will and become your ministers of the New Covenant.  Send your Holy Spirit into our hearts and lead us into proclamation to others.  We pray this in your name, Amen.
