I had a friend who had tried and tried to get pregnant and have a child. They wanted a child so bad but could never seem to make it happen. They tried everything. Years passed by, even to the point that they figured she would never get pregnant. They began to let go of the notion of having children. Until one day, out of the blue, she does become pregnant! They call her their miracle child because they were told it would be near impossible to become pregnant and give birth.
In 2 Kings 4:8-17, Elisha the prophet would travel. Elisha would always stay with a woman who opened her home to him when he was passing through her way. Her and her husband even went to the trouble to build a special room for him so that when he came, he had his own space. Because the couple went to so much expense to prepare a room just for him, Elisha wanted to do something special for them. The husband was way past child-bearing years, but Elisha promised her a son. The miracle happened. She bore a son.
God is all-powerful and we often cannot fathom His power and love for humankind. Not to mention, how impatient we are when God doesn’t seem to answer our prayers right away. What might seem impossible for you today? What can you give to God to handle in His due time?
Let us pray, Gracious God, we love you so much. Please forgive us when we do not have enough faith in you to perform miracles – especially the miracles we want. Help us to put our faith in you – believing that through you – anything is possible. In your name we pray. Amen.
