In the movie, “God’s Not Dead,” a professor of a university has his students write on a sheet of paper, “God is Dead.” The professor is challenged when a student who proclaims his Christianity goes to prove that “God is NOT Dead.” If you have never seen the movie, I highly recommend it. I am reminded of this movie as read about Jesus’ trial before Pilate…
Jesus is in Jerusalem. His disciples have deserted him. He has been betrayed by Judas, denied by Peter, and now handed over to the political and religious leaders. Pilate gets him first. He has the power to let Jesus go and so he begins his interrogation. Are you the King of the Jews? Jesus responds, “I am not the world’s king. This is not my kingdom.” Pilate asks, “So are you a king or not?” Jesus says, “You tell me.” And, the final question, “What is truth?” There is no response from Jesus.
So, what is truth? At the end of the debate between the professor (agnostic) and the student (Christian) – the professor cannot fathom the Truth. He cannot grasp that his mother whom he loved so much was in God’s Kingdom! The Truth is that Jesus is the only way to that Kingdom where evil does not reside! The Truth is that this professor has the opportunity to spend his eternal life with Christ and his mom! The Truth is that God loves us so much that God sent God’s only Son to die for us!
This is Truth!
